Onozasi : Share your background with us
Bowles : I am Fashina Boluwatife Timothy. Am the only child of my parents, am a young photographer with an open mind and an eye for keeping details and telling stories. I started photography in 2013 after my secondary school and I just finished a Course in Yaba tech on photography this year.
Onozasi : How did you know that you would venture into photography?
Bowles : Have always gotten interest in vocational learning, so after my secondary school, I was thinking of going into shoemaking before my aunt and my grandma advised me to go into photography since I had the flair too so, I decided I would pick up photography as a career.
Onozasi : Has it been a smooth ride so far?
Bowles :well, we thank God for all that he is doing, we are still young and we are growing, we will get there..it hasn’t been easy starting from having my first camera and other equipments, marketing myself as a photographer who is still young in the photography line. Getting new customers, studying the market chain, working all day, sleeping late at night and waking very early.
Onozasi : What are the hurdles you face as a photographer
Bowles : well, getting funds to start up as a photographer isn’t easy. Basically in Nigeria, people are after the big names, clients want a perfect job with just a little budget and also harassment by all these area boys. I could remember when I wanted to contest for the first boskel photography contest, I didn’t really know what it entails to be a documentary photographer until I was taught.
Onozasi : What inspires you and why?
Bowles : Nature, my first pictures (which are on the screen) actually qualified me as one of the top 10 contestant in the first boskel photo contest. and also, I get inspiration from other photographers.
Onozasi : Who are your mentors?
Bowles : Firstly, my boss who taught me some insights in photography, Mr. Olatunde akinmade. M.D photosynthesis, Kelechi Amadi-obi, Alakija, Kunle Afolayan, Chimaobi Agoha(a banker) he advises me and gives me support.
Onozasi : How do you balance work and leisure?
Bowles : well, there is time for everything. This is how I plan myself; my weekdays are for leisure and editing while weekends are for work and church.
Onozasi : What can you say about customer relations?
Bowles : It's very important in any business, I ran a course in school called communication studies. That’s one of the ways to make your business grow .making your customer your friend, simple.
Onozasi : For those who love to be in this field, how would you advise them?
Bowles : Dedication and hard work, they shouldn’t relent in all forms of life.
Onozasi : Have you ever thought of quitting and how did you did overcome that stage?
Bowles : Yes. that was when I haven’t gotten my own camera and equipments so sometimes I get disappointed when I have to borrow camera from people I know that are into photography, but I kept on praying and believing in God, as well as my grandma's advice and support as also kept me going.
Onozasi : What's your favorite old time music?
Bowles : Asa-jailer.
Onozasi : Your advice to parents who have children that are skilful. {The Spot Word}
Bowles : Support them in whatever way you as parents because the current situation in Nigeria now, it would be nice to have one skill or more because, it reduces unemployment and increases the standard of living.
Onozasi : Let's connect with you
