Monday Blues
I need A Maid {Life of a Working Mum}
My name is Omolade from Nigeria, and I am a married woman. I have two lovely children and I must say, I love my family. My husband works with a oil and gas company and has been transferred to Delta state but he tries to be visit us at least Thrice in a month. He loves his family so well and I am hoping that he gets transferred back to Lagos soonest, We are working on it though.
I work with a Real Estate firm in Lagos, a very big one and I work as the Assistant Director. My director is always on the move, always travelling here and there so the bulk of the work lies on me. I am a mother and that can be so difficult. The distance from my house to the office on a sunday evening{A typical Nigerian, knows I mean a day without traffic} Is less than 50 minutes but on a weekday, I spend close to two hours to work and when I am coming back from work, I spend Four to five hours. Hmmph! How do I keep up with being a mother yeah? My first daughter is 7 years old while the second born is 4 years Old so you can call me the mother of toddlers. They spend time in school and then the school bus takes them to Granny's place after school hours.
I try my best to get home before 10pm because that's when we do our home work, prepare for the next day, wash their clothes, wash their food flasks and make sure all is settled before the following day and I on the other hand, gets set for work. It's difficult to live in Lagos without stress but this particular kind of stress, I didn't bargain for it. Before we got married, we said we would share responsibilities. Oh well, it's not his fault but I want a Maid. My husband doesn't agree with the maid thing, he said there's been stories and he doesn't want his home to be on the storyline and I am wondering, how does he want me to survive?
In the office, I am the leader which means, I must not resume late. Only Chief Oga, gets to work at any time and closes when he wants to. The woman is not given a special treatment at all. I think we should revisit some ethics at work. Let the married woman be given some space except being refused by her. When she gets in a bit late, don't scream and call her useless.
Well, Life of an employee... You don't do wrong at all. Any first time mistake makes you totally incompetent to your generation. Someone told me to quit my job or opt for a transfer, I wish It was that easy, I have tried that but it didn't work. I cannot be lazing around in this economy with school fees? House Rent, Upkeep, Family bantas and what have you... In Lagos? Being a working mum is Huge and that's not to take about the pregnant workers in my office oooo... Please, don't I deserve to have a maid?
In this life? The Hustle is real! Welcome to my Episode of the Working Mum and her Blues...

You know why I know, it happened to me. I got late to the office for the first time in about 10months and that was because my second baby had a flu so I had to take some extra time making sure she was well before I left for work and then I got to work, 10 Minutes after resumption time and my Oga{boss} spoke some hurtful words that I still reminisce sometimes in my head and wonder why humans can be so cruel and inconsiderate. He insulted me that day and I cried my eyes out because I expected him to even take his eyes off it being the very first time.
